What other drivers are saying

Drive like granny. mostly.
I have used these tyres on a multitude of vehicles, keep coming back after testing other options.
Most all of my driving is open road, hills, windy. I have flat-spotted hankook and kumho equivalents avoiding loose stock, but never the federals.
Most of my cars have been diesels - a bit heavy up front so you need good traction. NO prob with these.
300ZX and lightly modded R31 (both about 180rwkw) is a bit of a different story. Up front is no problem. Once the tyres are maybe 4 years old the rubber goes off and you can lose traction at the rear, especially under hard acceleration. Most people will have worn the tyres out by then so shrug.
These tyres do get surface cracking on the side walls if left standing, not in regular (read daily driver) use. Yes I have experienced that too. Never had tyres sidewall bulges though (unlike the nasty hifly tyres in my ex-wifes hyundai).
Bottom line - if you get really bad road noise/delamination then this will be exception not the rule. grip for braking/accel/cornering is good until the tyres have 'gone off' with age. Wet use in a performance oriented car once the tyres have gone off can be 'interesting'. They prefer weight over the axle lines.
They represent surprisingly good value for money if you do lots of KM's - I get 60-70000 from a set (I do about 35000 open road km a year in daily driving).

You get what you pay for
Bought these tyres in 2015 (now 2017) to mount onto my new wheels. I found these tyres to have a decent amount of dry grip, especially for the price. I never found myself needing more grip with them in the dry, even when driving fairly aggressively. I cannot completely comment on the wet grip as I take it extremely easy in the wet, but for normal wet drivinf they seem to do fine. Sadly this is where the positives end. I ve only driven 6,000km s on them im the last 2 years, so they have not had a lot of use, although they have begun to crack/rot around where the tread comes out of the tyre. This is happening to all 4. I ve never seen this happen to any tyre, especially ones that are only 2 years old with minimal use. The noise. I found these tyres to be extremely loud once above speeds of 60km/h. My car has a full straight through exhaust with no cats, I am able to still hear the tyres over the exhaust at cruising speeds... I had to revert back to a stock exhaust for a week or so last year and the noise almost drove my crazy, I felt as though I was driving a 4x4 with mud tyres. I understand that semi slicks tend to be loud, but this tyre is not one, so there s no excuse. For a tyre that is not close to a semi slick I find that these are wearing considerably fast as well. Personally, from this experience, I would not go back to the 595SS for my next tyre change.

Federal 595 wet roads
Terrible on the rear of my s2000 in the wet. Twice the back end just broke and spun me around. Never buy again. Even my previous Khumo ku36 were better in the rain and that s a semi track tyre. Better options for the same money out there. Don t buy if you drive in the rain.

2000 Holden commodore Lumina
Definately the best value performance tyre - handling wear & price
Federal 595 s brilliant tyre 235/45/17 on my commodore Lumina , on 120,000 k s now & just below half tread . I drive responsibly & like to push the corners a little . Tyres do have a little noise but handling for me is amazing in the dry & pretty good in the wet . As for wear , I rotate the tyres every 6 months and my tyres are even shoulder to shoulder on all 4 corners. These 595 s are my 2nd set , unfortunately I had a rock on my driveway go through the wall on one tyre rendered it unrepairable . Only to find out now they do not make these 595 S anymore , extremely disappointed Federal tyres I hope your new performance tyre matches the old 595 s...............

Road noise very bad
This tyre is clearly a budget tyre. Great for 30000km and then the noise started! You can t believe the noise and vibrations these tyres are now causing, I started to think my bearings were shot or drive chain gone it was that bad. Yes they were half the price of my Continentals but now I have to replace them after only 30000km. Not happy.

On my second set
On my second set says it all. First set lasted on rear 40K miles, fronts a little less and thats on a grunty V6 diesel car. Only negative is that wet grip is not good, so drive accordingley. Otherwise, they are well priced and I am happy. Standard Pirelli Pzeros only lasted 15 to 20K miles and they weren t that great in the wet either but cost 2 and a half times the price.

Budget tyre
Good grip on dry road, this tyres are soooo noisy, hard to believe it. on the wet road going through the roundabout is like playing Russian rulet, scary! good breaking in all road conditions which is kind of surprising. Very good thread wear. I made so far 40K and I should be Ok to squizz another 40K.

Federal SS595
Ok to begin with I drive an AWD Twin Turbo with ASC, TC, ABS, and AYC. Federal SS595 s Grip - In dry conditions its decent, in the wet conditions below average. Wear - These tyres wear way to quickly, way quicker then I had anticipated Comfort - Absolutely shocking, not good at all. Noise - Loudest tyres I have ever come across. Ever! In the end Tyre s died because of tyre separation and terrible uneven wear, despite best efforts to avoid this, the result was inevitable. Will NEVER buy this tyre ever again! Be warned, its an over priced, under performing tyre.

Very happy with my 2nd set of Federals
My first set of Federal tyres was on a Peugeot 306 Cabriole & I was so impressed with them that when I bought a Lexus IS I waited until the original tyres had done 50k & put a set of Federals on. They are every bit as good as the Dunlop SPs that they replaced. I find them a great wet weather tyre. They can be noisy at first but quieten down as they wear. Value for money they can t be beaten.

Good value for money
I went from potenza re050a to these, which was always going to be a down grade. Having said that these exceeded my expectations of grip in the dry, though i must say they are rather dismal in wet. I can t see the lifespan of these being very long either but i am fairly hard on tires so that is to be expected. They are very noisy tire but i can t really complain about that as i can t hear much over my exhaust! haha

An alright Tyre if your on a budget
Previous Tyres: Bridgestone RE040 235/40 R18 Dry Grip: Performs around the same in the dry. Wet grip: a little less in the wet, can feel the car a little less grippy than the RE040 but very predictible. Road Noise: alot quiter than the RE040 s but does have a slightly diffrent sound comming from them if you listen close enough... not really a problem. Rim protection: not much compared to the RE040 s but decent enough to stop very light gutter rash. Overall a not bad tyre, i don t think they perform as well all round as the more expnsive tyres but decent for the price, plus the tread looks good. good tyre if your on a budget.

Good
Great value for money! I was pretty surprised by these, they are fairly good in the dry for a street tyre, they re not that far behind Bridgestone RE001 and better than the Good Year Eagles I had some years back which are both much over $200 a side. In the wet they re average but still much better than other cheap tyres. Only done about 10k out of these so far but they have a treadwear of 240 so Id estimate somewhere around 30-40k out of them. I will be getting these again for road tyres as they are cheap and do a great job at it! Id rather pay $100 less than other tyres and have something slightly less good, if you want something incredible go semi-slicks, if you want something that will get you from A to B and will still perform well when you want them to, buy these!

Very Noisy Tyre and poor grip in the wet
I purchased a car that had Federals on the rear. I immediately took the car to the workshop for suspect wheel bearings which turned out to be tyre noise. The car is very loose in the rear end in the wet. It is not related to suspension as ll bushes and Bilstein B8 s fitted recently

Urgent replacement tyres
While on a trip out to Longreach, I blew a rear tyre, and had to get two new one. The only ones I could get were Federal SS595 225/50/17, which cost me $390 for the two, fitted, including freight by truck from Rockhampton. I had no choice in the matter, and hoped the rural tyre service was doing the right thing. I am still on the same trip, towing a caravan, and have done about 2000km on them. They are on the front, and don t seem noisy, as other reviewers have said. The price I paid for these tyres seems to be industry standard.

Bad
Definitely not suited for a prestige vehicle. The noise is high and you can feel the rough tread in the steering
