Best set of tyres I’ve owned in my 30+years of driving. 90,000+ kms on and off-road. City and country driving. Only drawback is price but in this case you actually do get what you pay for.

Dreadful in the wet
These tyres are perfect on dry roads and through the bush. Handle well in the dry and not too noisy. but wet roads they are dreadful. Terrible understeer. Cannot recommend these to anyone.

It's a bit over 12 months since I bought our 2008 Pathy which was fitted with the Toyo's so I can't say exactly how many kilometres they'd already travelled before we put 30,000 on them. I was forced to replace 2/4 as we'd done a heap of work on the rear suspension which through the alignment into chaos. Unfortunately once they started to wear it was all over. The Toyo's had proven to be reliable on the tar as well as off road but as soon as the tread started getting just a little on the low side they became hopeless in the wet. It was impossible to get away from the lights without losing traction.
I've since fitted Falken Wildpeak AT3's to the front and still running the best 2 Toyo's on the rear so we'll see how well these last now that the alignment issues have been fixed! So far I'm loving the Falken's..

Drove to Birdsville and back to Isa (about 700kms each way with 80kms of dirt each way) on new tyres and staked 2 tyres with rocks through tread. Another 3 have had nails or screws picked up on road & 1 which just disintergrated on the highway. ALL Non-repairable due to the crap build of the tyre. They wear very quickly and just destroy themselves with nay punctures and cannot be repaired. Have gone through 6 tyres in less than 40 000kms (95% on road) at over $400 each. Toyo used to make a good tyres but the A25 is garbage!

I have had 3 flats, two on road 1 off road caused by dirt getting between rim and tyre bead I'm told this normally happens if the tyre is deflated too much or if the side walls are soft in construction, The second is most likly as I was running 32psi on lime stone / gravel. paid $230- a tyre to replace Mickey Thompsons on my Grand Cherokee as I could not wait the 4 weeks for the Mickey's to get into the country. I have since ordered the MT equivelent (WILDCATS) made by MT as I have had them before. I would rate the TOYO's 2 /10 being kind. I dont understand how TOYO got it soooo wrong when they make some fantastic passanger, Luxury and sports tyres. just goes to prove that you cant rely on a brand alone, do your research on equivilent products and cars that you have. Have had regular rotation at 7500 intervals have not needed a balance yet. Very quiet for the open tread design. Very hard to beat. On LC 200 series Sahara.It would take a lot to get me to change from these. I think they will be good for 80,000 Klm.

Been out west twice with them and after we left tarmac first time it was dry and they handled exceptionally well at 100kms/hr on the dirt and the next time was wet and they were just as good. Have done around 5,000 kms on dirt and the rest on tar and they still look new. In the mud they are also excellent great traction. Will be fitting these again when the time comes for replacement.

Bought a full set of Open County AT2 size 265/65R17 for My 2007 Toyota 120 series Landcruiser from Tyre Power in Clarkson WA who were very helpful and great service.I use the car 50% Sand, 40% Road, & 10% Gravel.So far I am very happy with the tyres. I previously had BFG's All Terrains on and before that was Dunlop Gradtrek All Terrains.I find the Toyos handle better in the wet then the BFG's and I have trialed the tyres out in the wet at roundabouts and found them to feel safe and not as slippery as other tyres in the wet. The toyos perfrom well in soft sand obviously with the pressures dropped and the Toyos feel stable and connected to the road when travelling on loose gravel roads.I find there is a little bit more noise from the Toyos when you are on the freeway/sealed roads at higher speeds but to be fair I had to turn off the radio and listen out to notice the difference in noise compared to other tyres but there definitely is slightly more noise from the Toyos but nothing that can't be fixed by turning up the radio or music.

After a recommendation re durability from a tyre dealer we had a set of these put on a 2001 Nissan Patrol, and found them to be the most durable tyres we have had by a long shot. We have done about 90000km, 95% on bitumen and 5% off road, and there is still plenty of wear left in the tyres (and no punctures). They certainly aren't the grippiest tyres on a wet road, and are very inclined to fill with mud in off road conditions. However it all depends on what you want from your tyres. The originals (Bridgestone) only lasted about 30000km, and the following set (Goodrich All-Terrain) were better offroad but only lasted about 80000km (and there were 2 side wall punctures).

Purchased a set of AT2's after a lot of research. I am usually a devoted BFG bloke but cant help but feel they are pricing themselves out of reach. Being made in Japan and priced at $260 a tyre fitted and balanced (BFG $380/tyre) I decided to give a set a go, after all how bad could they be, Toyo has been around forever. After 30000kms I actually think they are very comparative to everything else I have had before and are showing little wear. I am estimating they will be good for 90000 kms. They feel great on road and not slippery in the wet and we have towed a 3 tonne van in torrential flooding rain with no aquaplaning. They have been on rough gravel and dirt tracks and are great on sand. The only negative is that I think they are probably a little noisier on bitumen than the BFG's but not excessive. I am really impressed for the Money. Will definitely buy again providing they don't have a massive price rise like the BFG's Coopers and Mickey T's.

In 2010 we bought a new Toyota VDJ76R Landcruiser Wagon GXL that came with Dunlop Grandtrek AT1.On average we drove about 70% bitumen, 15% dirt road, 10% sand, mud, rock and 5% city.The AT1 were OK on highway, gravel and sand and they felt average in mud. We had all five tyres rotated & balanced every six months and they lasted for 60k with lots of nicks but not a single flat tyre which is impressive considering the abuse they suffered. But the AT1 always felt as if they did not have enough grip, no matter if dry bitumen, gravel or wet roads.One month ago we bought Toyo Open Country A/T in the same size (265/70R16) and as soon as we hit the motorway I thought that they were a lot quieter and also had more grip.Since then I was able to test their excellent handling when I had to both break hard and steer away from a car whose driver decided to veer into our lane (no ABS in the MY10 wagon) but we otherwise did very little driving.We just came back from a camping trip with 500k highway and 20k gravel and I was very happy with how quiet they are and how stable the ride felt all the time.It is difficult to say if I imagine that they are so much better than the AT1. My wife agrees with the stability improvement, she cannot remember the AT1 noise level but agrees that the Open Country are quiet tyres.In six months we'll travel west on the great central road and east on the Gibb river road. I'll try to remember to give an update.

Then the newest one only a year old on the highway doing 100 the tread comes off like a retread. Got a claim going on this but cant explain why this happens with good tyres could of ended a lot worst if it was a front tyre. Will give Bridgestone Duelers a/t a go now.

Both brands get me 80K + kilometres before replacement with plenty of TWI left, but of the two Toyo is best. New OPAT2 is brilliant - quiet, steers impeccably and proving durable. Other reviewer saying Toyo chip... I say put your glasses on mate, you're blind, that's a Cooper sidewall you're looking at! Biggest mistake people make with their tyres is over-inflation! Check your placard, it doesn't lie!

I replaced the original Dunlop Grandtreks on my 1997 80 Series Landcruiser with the Gen 1 Toyo Open Country's.I work as a geologist and on a cross-country traverse, staked the sidewall of one of the new ones with only 10,000km on it in dreadful stick country, in completely off-road conditions where I reckon almost anything would be hard to put to pass unscathed, but after replacing that tyre due to serious wall damage, never had another problem, finally replacing them with 82,000 km on them and they had not quite word down to the bars.I undertook detailed research search for replacement tyres and then discovered the newer Open Country Series 2. They've only been on for less than 5,000km so too early to comment, but they ride and steer better than the previous series and are even quieter. The price I finally secured after shopping around was very reasonable, at $279 ea fitted and balanced for 4 x $275/70 R16's, incl GST.I'll come back when I have more comments. Four stars for now, subject to outcomes.

Great wearing, reliable tyre with excellent grip on wet roads

I've got 2 of these tyres on my 2007 PJ Ford Ranger HiRider. When I bought them they were the only tyres I could get hold of late on a Saturday morning. I've been absolutely rapt with these tyres. I do 90% of my driving as general on road use with some paddock work(eg collecting firewood etc). I also regularly tow a horsefloat. They are the first tyre I've tried on this vehicle that actually have good grip on wet roads. So far these tyres have approximately 40 000km on them at 50-60% wear. In comparison I have Maxxis Bravo 700 AT on the rear of this vehicle with around 38000km on them & they're looking to be replaced within the next month. I'm currently running stock 15" steel rims but I'm upsizing to a 16" alloy in the next week or two. I will definitely be using Toyos on the 16" rims.I've had one puncture in these tyres & that was caused by a roofing screw picked up somewhere in my travels. This could happen regardless of which brand of tyre you are running.Sorry I can't offer any advice regarding their off road capabilities.

Expected better than 36,600 out of these tyres!!!
We were recommended these tyres by Tyre Zone. We mainly do highway and city driving and tow a caravan, boat and camper trailer and do an occasional bit of off road /4wd. They handled well and even got to the Cape and back (not the Old Telegraph Track ...
We were recommended these tyres by Tyre Zone. We mainly do highway and city driving and tow a caravan, boat and camper trailer and do an occasional bit of off road /4wd. They handled well and even got to the Cape and back (not the Old Telegraph Track) with only one puncture. We were told to expect about 50,000 klms at least out of them and we were disappointed to only get 36,600. We could have perhaps got a couple of 1000 more if we has let them go down to the wear markers. Can't believe others getting such high mileage out of them. We are older and steadier drivers so we weren't hooning around on them either.

Used the tyres on my Toyota. Probably not the best road holding tyres you can get but I bought them when working on the Gunbarrel Highway and having three punctures in a day. Since then they have done 90000km, never had a puncture and still look good ...

Since then they have done 90000km, never had a puncture and still look good! I am changing them due to age rather than wear and will use the casings for spares.

My 80 series landcruiser needed new boots, after reviewing the current options, based on my usage and cost I decided on the Toyo AT. Given that I am 80% on sealed roads and highway i needed a tyre that could handle some off road and was quiet on highways. So far they performed at least as well as the Grandtrek off road and much better on road. The handling has improved and the ride is excellent, and best of all they are quiet. If you own a similar vehicle and have similar usage, I would recommend having a close look at a set of these. Might save you a few dollars as well.
