Road trip #1: Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail \u2013 day trip or stay for a weekend<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Wake up at the\u00a0Cradle Mountain Hotel\u00a0and start your journey on the\u00a0Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail, a self-guided food journey showcasing the finest food, wine, honey (and fudge!) of the North West region. Stay in a luxurious upcycled shipping container at\u00a0Coastal Pods\u00a0in Wynyard to sleep off your taste tests. Or get rustic at\u00a0Prickly Mo Wines\u00a0\u2013 about 15 minutes out of Devonport \u2013 with Friday night live music in a restored shearing shed.<\/p>\n

Road trip #2: Devonport to Hobart \u2013 approximately 281km south<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019ve made your way across the water on the\u00a0Spirit of Tasmania, the world (or, at least, Tassie) is your oyster. You\u2019ve arrived on an island full of delicious distractions, so set yourself a goal to get to Hobart\u2019s\u00a0Museum of New and Old Art\u00a0(Mona).<\/p>\n

Before you cross the Derwent, take the turn off to Bridge water and sample some local ales at\u00a0Moo Brew\u00a0(it must be fate \u2013 the brewery originally launched at Mona and features artwork from renowned Australian artist John Kelly). That\u2019s my kind of culture.<\/p>\n

Road trip #3: Hobart to Mount Field National Park \u2013 approximately 75km west<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Take off from Hobart to Tasmania\u2019s oldest (and most loved) national park, with the short drive to\u00a0Mount Field National Park\u00a0taking you through the rolling hills of the Derwent Valley. Explore the enormous fern forests of Russell Falls and keep an eye out for echidnas, wallabies, and platypuses.<\/p>\n

Split the difference on the way back towards Hobart and make a stop in New Norfolk. Check in to\u00a0The Shingles Riverside Cottages\u00a0and indulge at the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery (a combined farm and cooking school). The seasonal dishes change daily, but if the cheese dumplings with burnt butter are on the menu while you\u2019re there \u2013 take no prisoners!<\/p>\n

Road trip #4: Launceston to Hobart \u2013 approximately 480km via East Coast<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Technically, Launceston to Hobart is about a 200km drive from north to south, through the Island State\u2019s centre. But why go straight there when you can head to the East Coast and wind your way from city to city?<\/p>\n

Spoil yourself with a stay at\u00a0Freycinet Lodge\u00a0near Wineglass Bay, and fill your belly with the freshest of fish and chips at The Gulch shack in Bicheno, or the famous lavender ice-cream of\u00a0Port Arthur Lavender Farm. Loose pants recommended.<\/p>\n

Road trip #5: Hobart to Bruny Island \u2013 approximately 83km<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The direct trip to Bruny Island from Hobart may be just over 80km, but it\u2019s a trip of at least two hours. About a 40-minute drive south of Hobart gets you to Kettering, where lunch at the\u00a0Peppermint Bay Hotel\u00a0lets you enjoy the Bruny Island views. Oysters shucked to order? Keep \u2018em coming.<\/p>\n

Take the car on the\u00a0Bruny Ferry\u00a0and get thee to the winery! Explore Australia\u2019s southern most vineyard at\u00a0Bruny Island Premium Wines, then head about 15 minutes south to settle in at the\u00a0Cloudy Bay Beach House. Check out the lighthouse, museum, and national park\u2026 or just sit on the deck and daydream.<\/p>\n
